AD | AGENCY
November 8, 2007 – January 28, 2008
This group exhibition, curated by PRC Curator Leslie K. Brown, brought together photo-based work that mimics or addresses the language of advertising and product photography as well as work that mines or alters catalogues, print ads, products, stores, or literally the process itself. Addressing a spectrum of consumerism issues, the work investigated the life of and power behind the objects, signs, and symbols that are marketed to us and the cycle of consumption—from branding to purchase and beyond. International, national, and regional artists included Kate Bingaman-Burt, Dean Kessmann, Jonathan Lewis, Michael Mittelman, Diana Shearwood, Matt Siber, Hank Willis Thomas, Brian Ulrich, and Penelope Umbrico. New England Survey
March 28 – May 11, 2008
This exhibition surveyed contemporary work from and of the New England landscape, featuring one artist from (or project based in) each of the 6 New England states. Curated by PRC Curator, Leslie K. Brown, the exhibition took for its inspiration a poem by Amherst poet Robert Francis (1901-1987), “New England Mind.” The works highlighted often began with and focused upon a very specific locale within the regional landscape, yet meditate upon on the grander, ineffable idea of a “sense of place.” The featured photographers/projects were Barbara Bosworth, Tanja Alexia Hollander , Janet Pritchard , Thad Russell , Jonathan Sharlin, and Paul Taylor.
